First, I convinced myself that I did not matter.

Then, I came to believe that nothing mattered.

Now, I realize that everything matters.

And it has been the most ruinous of the three.

    1. I realize that now. There was a time, however - a long time - during which I truly believed that I had no worth. That time ended when I began to formally study the sciences.

  2. I'd say, it's more like EVERYONE matters...and I can think of lots of THINGS that don't really matter at all.

    1. Everything includes everyone. I am referring to the interconnected nature of all things, not necessarily "things" as material objects.
