There is no progress in the absence of conflict.

However, one must look outside of the self to understand, refine, and utilize conflict constructively.

Viewing disagreement in terms of the self is the quickest path to anger and destructive reasoning.


  1. As always, you speak the honest truth. Ever hear of Stephen Covey? The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? One of the habits is "Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood".

    Not that I'm plugging their company, of course. I know a lot of people that already do enough of that in their spare time. But their viewpoint supports yours.


  2. I have actually heard of Stephen Covey. In fact, I listened to the first chapter of 7 Habits on CD quite a few years ago. However, I think that the only thought running through my middle school mind about it at the time was, "Wait a minute...Batman's not in this?"

    I should probably give it another go.
