So I just did some quick research and realized that all I need is a Linux Intrepid Ibex boot disk and some crazy commands entered into a terminal and I can have my boot menu back.

If anybody out there has such a disk, please feel free to contact me...

  1. First, Hi :)
Second, how did you install Linux in the first place? I thought all install CD's were also live disks. Just put that CD in and select boot from CD (or something like that). I don't remember what the command is to get GRUB to come up again though. Should be easy to find.

Windows is kinda stupid/stubborn in that it doesn't recognize other operating systems on your machine, so it covers up the boot loader. In the future, if you ever want to dual boot you should install windows first, and then linux since linux does detect other OS's.

  2. Is this Tony from MD Tony?

Your name is in what I assume is Japanese.

And I just needed a disk with Linux on it. I used somebody else's to install it. I just fixed my boot menu a few hours ago, though. I borrowed a disk from my friend.

And yeah, Windows is a bitch. I've had a dual boot for a couple of years now. I know all about how Windows molests boot menu, I was just ill prepared to deal with it. I was just upgrading from XP and formatted the drive, so I used my Linux partition to back up my files.

  3. I swear I submitted a response. . .
Let me summarize what it was.

Yes, that Tony. I first linked my google account to blogger for my Japanese class, so I put my name down in japanese.

I was apparently confused about your setup. Sorry about that.

And I'm reminded that I need to update my Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10. Although really there aren't any huge updates that I'm excited about.

  4. Yeah. I think I'm just going to wait until April when the new build comes out.

There's really not much sense in going through the update process right now.
